       Reduction in driving ban after 2 years...

If you receive a period of disqualification of over two years, you may apply to the court to have the ban reduced once you have served at least two years (if ban less than 4 years) or 50% (if ban between 4 and 10 years).  If you have been subject to a second ban period, it is quite common for the court to pass a driving ban of over two years.  For people convicted of drink driving for second time within 10 years, it is mandatory for the court to disqualify for at least three years.

       How easy is it to get the driving ban lifted?

The courts will not simply reduce any period of disqualification because it is inconvenient to the applicant.  Driving ban’s are handed down for a reason, so the magistrates’ court will want good reasons for the early return of your driving licence considering a person’s character, conduct since the passing of the ban, the circumstances of the original offence and any other relevant circumstances.  Section 42(2) of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 sets down the criteria the court will consider.  The CPS invariably oppose such applications.  If you are unsuccessful, you will be prevented from renewing the application for three months.
